UUID Generator

Generate version 4 UUIDs in the browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Results appear here.

What the result means

Version 4 UUIDs are random identifiers, not names and not timestamps. The page asks the browser for crypto.randomUUID and repeats that call for the count you chose, between one and fifty. Each result is 128 bits, shown as hex in the usual five groups, with the version and variant bits set so other systems recognise the type. The list is for copying. Nothing is stored and nothing is uploaded. Use one as a label for a row, a file, or a request. It is not a password and it is not proof that a record exists. A collision is possible and, for this size, not worth planning around. If randomUUID is missing, generation stops and a weaker fallback is not used.

Questions

What is a UUID?

A UUID is a 128-bit identifier, usually written as 32 hex digits in five groups. These ones are version 4, so the bits come from a random source rather than a name or a timestamp.

Are these suitable for passwords?

No. They are identifiers, not passwords. A UUID has a fixed, recognisable shape and is meant to be used as a label, often where other people can see it.

What if randomUUID is missing?

The page shows an error and does not invent a weaker identifier. No value is produced until the browser provides crypto.randomUUID.
