DNS Lookup

Look up DNS records for any hostname. A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS and CNAME via DNS over HTTPS.

Results appear here.

What the result means

The page sends the name and the type you picked to https://cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query and asks for JSON. The resolver in the result is that service, not your ISP and not a private Worker. A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, and CNAME are the types on offer, and A is the default. NXDOMAIN is shown as a result: the name is not in the DNS the resolver asked. It is not treated as a broken page. When the answer is a CNAME, the page prints that record and its TTL and stops. It does not quietly look up the target. Run a second query if you want the address at the end of the chain. TTLs are the values from this answer, in seconds, and another resolver may still be holding an older copy.

Questions

What is an MX record?

An MX record names a mail server for the domain and a preference number. Mail software tries the lower preference first. It is not the address of the website.

Why is there no A record?

The name might exist only as a CNAME, only as AAAA, or only as mail records. NXDOMAIN means the name itself was not found. An empty answer with status NOERROR means the name exists but has no record of the type you asked for.

Does this follow a CNAME?

No. The row you see is the record that came back. If it is a CNAME, look up the target name yourself. The page does not hide that extra step.
