Results

What the result means

Compare a source collection CSV with an authoritative export of its referenced collection. Webflow can derive a slug from a display name, but custom slugs need exact values. Select the reference column and distinguish single references from multi-reference cells. The report identifies unmatched values, custom-slug mismatches and possible spelling corrections. Suggestions start unapproved; decide each replacement from your source records. The candidate is checked again against the target export and unresolved references block download, even when Webflow might accept an optional field as blank. CSV parsing and output run locally. This tool cannot verify live collection state, account limits, publish status or every CMS field type.

Questions

Why are my Webflow reference fields blank after importing a CSV?

Webflow matches reference fields by auto-generating a slug from your cell text and checking if an item with that exact slug exists in the target collection. If the referenced item uses a custom-edited slug (such as author-bio instead of the default author-name), Webflow fails to resolve it and silently leaves the reference field blank or sets the item to Draft status.

How do I format multi-reference fields for Webflow CSV import?

Webflow strictly requires semicolons (;) to separate items in multi-reference columns (e.g. tag-one; tag-two; tag-three). If you use commas, Webflow will treat the entire comma-separated cell as a single item title, fail to find a matching slug, and leave the field empty.

What is Webflow's CSV file size limit?

Webflow enforces a strict 4 MB file size limit for CSV imports. Datasets larger than 4 MB must be split into multiple smaller CSV files before uploading.

Can I reference CMS items that do not exist yet in Webflow?

No. All referenced items must already exist in their destination CMS collection before you run your import. Webflow cannot create new referenced parent items on the fly during a child collection CSV import.

Does any of my collection or customer data leave my device?

No. Parsing, slug matching, Levenshtein distance calculations, and corrected CSV generation take place entirely on your device using client-side JavaScript. No spreadsheet data is sent over the network.
