How to Fix Missing Tracks and Broken XML Paths in Rekordbox

Moving your DJ library to a new laptop, drive letter, or operating system causes Rekordbox missing track errors. Use Rekordbox Missing Files Fixer to batch repair rekordbox.xml file paths without losing cue points or beatgrids.

Rewrite exported XML paths for relocated audio. Verify imported tracks, cues and playlists in Rekordbox; this is not a library-backup restore.

What to run

Open Rekordbox Missing Files Fixer.

In Pioneer DJ Rekordbox: Go to File → Export Collection in XML format and save your `rekordbox.xml` file.

Drop or browse your exported XML file into the tool.

XML inspection and path rewrites run 100% locally in your web browser. Your music collection, playlist hierarchies, and track titles are never uploaded to any remote server.

Enter the old path prefix to replace (e.g. `D:/OldMusic` or `/Users/oldname/Music`) and your new destination directory path (e.g. `E:/Music` or `/Volumes/DJSSD/Music`).

<!-- Rekordbox XML TRACK element with Location URI -->
<TRACK TrackID="101" Name="Solar Stone" Artist="Solarstone" BitRate="320"
       Location="file://localhost/D:/OldDJMusic/Trance/SolarStone.mp3">
  <TEMPO Inizio="0.0" Bpm="138.00" Metro="4/4" />
  <POSITION_MARK Num="1" Kind="0" Start="45.2" />
</TRACK>

How to read the result

Inspect the status banner and stat cards showing Total Tracks Repaired, Original Prefix, and New Destination Prefix.

Review the Sample Path Replacements to ensure that Windows drive letters (e.g. `D:/` vs `E:/`) or macOS POSIX paths (`/Users/...`) are formatted accurately.

Verify that track URI encoding has preserved spaces and non-ASCII track characters cleanly.

Click Download Repaired Rekordbox XML to save the updated XML file.

In Rekordbox: Open Preferences → Advanced → Database → rekordbox xml, select the repaired file, expand the XML tree, right-click, and choose Import to Collection.

What to open next

If you need to validate or format raw XML documents, inspect them with XML Formatter.

If you need to perform regex replacements across plain text, use Find and Replace.

If you need to compare before-and-after XML files line-by-line, use Text Diff.

In Rekordbox: Refresh your collection, verify that orange exclamation marks have disappeared, and export playlists to your USB drives.

Stop when

Stop when the proposed replacements match the paths you intended to change and representative tracks load correctly in Rekordbox. A partial migration need not change every track. Check cues, beatgrids and playlists after importing; a rewritten XML path does not prove the audio exists.

Always retain your original `rekordbox.xml` export as an untouched safety backup before importing updated collections.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Rekordbox show missing file errors after moving music to another drive or laptop?

Rekordbox stores absolute file paths to every track in your collection. If the drive letter changes (e.g. D: to E: on Windows) or your user directory changes on macOS, Rekordbox can no longer locate the audio files.

How do I import the repaired XML back into Rekordbox?

In Rekordbox Preferences, go to Advanced → Database → rekordbox xml and select the repaired XML file. Then open the XML section in your Rekordbox tree, right-click, and select Import to Collection.

Will repairing XML paths delete my cue points or beatgrids?

No. This tool only updates the Location URI attribute of each TRACK tag. All inner tags—including POSITION_MARK, TEMPO, and PLAYLISTS—remain completely unaltered.
