Submit a sitemap through the intended engine
Publish a valid sitemap containing the canonical public URLs you want discovered, then verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools or the other engine’s supported webmaster service. Use that service’s sitemap submission interface and inspect its reported fetch/parsing result.
For example, submit https://example.com/sitemap.xml, then check whether the engine could retrieve it and how many URLs it read. A sitemap may help discovery; it does not force acceptance of every page. Follow the current engine instructions rather than assuming Google submissions are shared.
Notify participating engines of changed URLs
Use IndexNow Submitter for a host you control. Publish and verify its key file, review the extracted URL list and submit eligible additions, updates or deletions. IndexNow receives URL notifications rather than a raw sitemap document.
An HTTP 200 records successful submission; 202 indicates receipt while key validation is pending. Do not report either as a promise that a crawler has been queued or a page indexed. Use the actual engine’s inspection and reporting tools for that later evidence.
Verify outcomes independently
Keep the submitted sitemap location, change time and API response. Inspect a few destination URLs for unintended redirects, crawl restrictions or noindex directives. Correct the source problem instead of repeatedly resubmitting unchanged inventories.
Monitor the relevant webmaster report and your server evidence over time. IndexNow participation does not establish that an AI product will cite the page or cite it sooner. Search visibility and citations depend on separate systems and decisions.

Frequently asked questions
Is sitemap submission the same as IndexNow?
No. A sitemap is an inventory fetched by an engine; IndexNow receives notifications about URL changes for participating engines.
Does IndexNow 202 mean a crawl is queued?
No. It indicates receipt while key validation is pending, not guaranteed crawling or indexing.
Will submission guarantee AI citations?
No. Neither submission route establishes when or whether another product will cite the page.
