What the result means

Google Analytics 4 supports importing non-Google advertising costs to calculate blended return on ad spend, but the GA4 Data Import engine rejects files with currency symbols, formatted dates, or missing join dimensions. This preflight validator parses your advertising exports locally to verify required date, source, medium, campaign, and numeric spend columns before upload. It automatically strips currency symbols and thousands commas, standardizes timestamps into ISO YYYY-MM-DD dates, and checks currency codes. When comparing your spend file against recorded GA4 traffic acquisition exports, it flags exact matches, isolates orphan campaigns, and catches case-sensitivity mismatches that cause zero match rates in GA4 attribution reports. All validation runs locally in your browser. Ad spend records and campaign metrics are never transmitted over the network.

Questions

Why does GA4 report a zero match rate for imported cost data?

Google Analytics 4 joins external cost data with website session traffic using exact string matching on source, medium, and campaign name or campaign ID. Because GA4 dimension values are case-sensitive, importing Facebook / cpc when website traffic recorded facebook / cpc results in a complete join failure and a zero match rate.

Why was my advertising cost CSV rejected by Google Analytics 4?

GA4 requires strict column schemas, ISO YYYY-MM-DD date formats, and pure floating-point decimal numbers for cost without currency symbols or thousands commas. Non-numeric characters like dollar signs or spaces cause fatal import rejections during GA4 data processing.

Does my company ad spend data leave the browser?

No. All CSV parsing, schema checking, and traffic reconciliation run entirely in your local browser sandbox using client-side JavaScript. Your commercial advertising spend, impression counts, and campaign identifiers are never uploaded to our servers or logged in telemetry.

What platforms can I validate with this GA4 cost importer?

The tool validates ad spend exports from Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, TikTok Ads, Pinterest Ads, Microsoft Advertising, and standard Google Analytics cost templates.
