Days from Date

Add or subtract a whole number of calendar days from a date. The result is the landing date and its weekday. Weekends count, and the time of day is ignored.

One day after 1 January is 2 January. A negative number walks backward. Weekends count, and the time of day is ignored.

What the result means

The start is a calendar date, not a time, so a daylight-saving shift cannot change the result. The day count is a whole number of midnights. One day after 1 January is 2 January. Zero days returns the same date. A negative count walks backward by that many midnights. The result is the calendar date that many days away, plus the weekday name of that date. Weekends count the same as weekdays. February 29 is used when the landing year is a leap year, and it is skipped when the year is not. The page does not count business days, and it does not include an hour or a minute. A count past 365000 days either way is rejected, as is a result outside year 1 through 9999.

Questions

Is one day from 1 January the 2nd?

Yes. The count is a number of midnights, so one day after 1 January is 2 January. Zero days returns the start date. The page does not count both endpoints as an extra day.

Can I go backward?

Yes. A negative number walks backward by that many calendar days. Subtracting one day from 1 March in a leap year lands on 29 February. A positive number walks forward.

Are weekends skipped?

No. Saturday and Sunday count the same as any other day. This page does not count business days. Date Difference has a separate Monday-to-Friday figure for a span between two dates.
