Results
What the result means
This tool inspects your spreadsheet against Asana CSV import requirements without transmitting sensitive company tasks or credentials to remote servers. Asana requires parent tasks to appear before their subtasks in spreadsheet row order and relies on exact parent task names to construct task trees. The validator parses your CSV, builds an interactive hierarchy tree, identifies subtasks positioned before their parents, flags missing parent names, highlights duplicate task names that create ambiguity, and warns about deep nesting or malformed due dates. You can download an automatically reordered CSV that satisfies Asana ordering rules for immediate, error-free project imports.

Questions
Why are my subtasks not importing into Asana properly?
The most common cause is spreadsheet row ordering. Asana strictly requires that parent tasks appear on earlier rows than their subtasks. If a subtask row precedes its parent, Asana fails to link them and imports the subtask as an orphaned task.
How does Asana match subtasks to their parent tasks in a CSV?
Asana matches subtasks by exact parent task name specified in the Parent Task column. If you have duplicate tasks with the exact same name, Asana cannot determine which task is the intended parent, leading to ambiguous attachments.
Does this tool automatically fix the Asana parent row ordering problem?
Yes. The validator performs a topological sort across your tasks and subtasks to generate a corrected CSV where every parent task is placed immediately before its subtasks, preserving section headers and custom column data.
